Great Train Robbers House
Picture box perfect and far from the madding crowds, this thatched cottage is tucked deep in the Cornish countryside . . . and that's probably part of the appeal it held for former owner and ex Great Train robber, Brian Field.

As the "fixer" of the robbery, he was sentenced to 25 years in jail but on appeal, was released after less than 5 years in 1967. He soon changed his name from Field to Carlton, to escape the public, his former colleagues (he was responsible for vital clues being left which helped identify the robbers to the police) and any other would be assailants looking to get their hands on his share of the stolen loot.

It was only when he died in a car accident at the age of 44 that his former identity was revealed - it's thought even his second wife, who also died that day was unaware of who he really was!

Set on a quiet country lane, the property has a gated drive and is set in a quarter of an acre of private landscaped gardens. A small stream runs along one boundary of the property and there are open fields to the west.

The three / four bedroom house is beautifully presented with feature beams and an inglenook fireplace in the living room.

The ideal, peaceful retreat for any modern day pirate of Penzance.
