Castle For Sale
If ever a castle was in need of a knight in shining armour coming to the rescue, it's this one. And if said knight is looking for the ultimate in renovation projects then category B listed Lordscairnie Castle could be just perfect.

Dating from the late 15th / early 16th century this four storey (plus attic) L-plan tower house has walls that are six feet deep in places. Built by the Earl of Crawford, one of the most powerful noblemen in Scotland, the castle was an important centre for the Lindsay clans operations and enjoyed a colourful history. Entrance was gained by a large staircase protected by a machicolation (floor openings between the supporting corbels of a battlement, through which stones, boiling oil etc, could be dropped on an attacker).

The castle was abandoned in the mid 17th Century and has fallen into disrepair, with many of the dressed stones having been removed for local houses.

Set in almost 30 acres of land, this piece of Scottish history would make a unique home in an unrivalled setting and although restoration wouldn't be cheap, rumour has it that ill-gotten treasure is hidden at the castle which could help significantly with the renovation costs.
