Monastic House Dating To The Medieval Ages For Sale
Llanthony Secunda Manor is a late mediaeval listed monastic building that dates back to the middle ages (built around 1120) and has a very well documented history.

In brief, it was built as a grange for monks from Llanthony Secunda and the monks who lived there continued their farming activities until the reign of Henry VIII. He seized the Priory Manor (as he did with all church owned property) and appointed Clement Dace as his bailiff and farmer. In 1557 the manor was sold on and changed hands a number of times.

By 1972 this ancient house with its amazing history was scheduled for demolition. It lay empty, its windows had been broken and its floors had rotted away. It was only a hurried listing of the building which saved it from demolition and some comprehensive and exhaustive restoration that has created the beautiful building that exists today. In recent years the latest owners have successfully let the property as holiday accommodation.

Llanthony Secunda Manor is a seven bedroom property with flexible accommodation and it boasts many original features such as exposed stone walls, a bread oven, reclaimed flagstone and cobbled floors, leaded windows with shutters, built-in window seats, exposed beams and much more besides. It is one of the oldest buildings in the village of Caldicott and has a south facing walled garden.

Also included is a detached barn situated at the entrance of the Manor which has Listing Building Consent to restore and convert it into a studio with first floor mezzanine.

All in all a fascinating property with a great story - it even has a few ghosts too!
