JK Rowling's childhood home - the inspiration for Harry Potter perhaps

JK Rowlings Former House For Sale
Built circa 1852 as a school house by the Gothic Revivalist architect, Henry Woodyer, this detached Grade II listed three bedroom cottage was the family home of JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books.

She lived in Church Cottage from the age of 9 until she left home for university at the age of 18 and it's clear she got inspiration from the house to create the multi million pound franchise of seven Harry Potter books and eight movies, the last of which premiered last week.

While it isn’t quite Hogwarts, the house has a definite gothic enchanted feel about it. The house boasts a dusty understairs cupboard just like the one at Aunt Petunia's, there is a trap door leading to the eerie cellar and JK Rowling even used the name of her home village - Tutshill - as one of the Quidditch teams in the books.

Next door to the cottage is a church and graveyard - perhaps the setting and village inspired the fictional Cedric's Hollow.

And not only did the house leave a mark on JK Rowling, she also left a mark on it - one room has "Joanne Rowling slept here circa 1982" scrawled on the wall. Let's hope Voldemort doesn't come calling!
